-
- i am wondering when that was.. version i speak is QVTNetWS3.9
-
- to be fair - and i'll try your product as well - .... i am;
-
- new to the windowing environment of INTERNET by most in these
- groups. I had trouble with winsock apps (-a finger that quit as
- soon as i hit enter, clicked the mouse key, or ..just paused too
- long. the archie was a total joke, and the telnet was missing
- its' own graphic lines???) The WS_FTP was and is, dependable.
-
- the commercial applications have drawbacks as well. We spend
- between 295.00 and 8000.00 not to get a name brand but rather,
- solid, dependable applications that work day in and day out.
-
- Now, aside, this led me to try the mentioned software WinQVT
- and it came up as a nice *3x5 card* -after reading docs that
- all but held my hand, i.e. "put your IP address here."
-
- I entered the IP and the host "in one (1) file" *two*, if you
- count the set commands in the autoexec.bat. I then reboot and
- start it ... it arrives on screen with information about all
- that transpired as it started... very nice. -Information.
-
- i look and try each of the five little push buttons accross
- the top of its unassuming 3x5 card display... *more info*
-
- | "telnet" "ftp" "mail" "news" and "lprn". This is clean.
-
- I use the telnet - I use the ftp - I use the mail - I use the
- news - and I use the lprn. It has never crashed. In fact,
- after getting up and running (took a whole 20 min)... I went
- back to the documents and found that I could configured a sum
- total of four files and get more function. You ever UUCP???
-
- Granted, QVT may not be as nice (built from the ground up!) as
- yours, but here in okc, where access has only been around for
- seventy five days, with a local call -it, (QVT) is becoming
- fairly popular. And it has honestly *never* crashed on us.
-
- The mail (using it) is uncomfortable -have to always type in my
- pwd, but - I use commercial software, on excellent hardware
- platforms and QVT did something AIR didn't * it backs down from
- a non existant Pop and uses SMTP? and tries again and *sends* the
- mail -the object here remember is to get it sent , right?)
-
- I search out the new stuff for our customers here. I take things
- to the outside of their envelope as fast as I can. I need to be
- able to say yes not maybe. And not even occasionally objective?
- bugs will be tolerated. It's alot of fun! heres a real example:
-
- I am...Viewing clementine art #4 as #5 is being downloaded,
- i am printing "ds n /s >lpt1" for you...i telnet to netcom
- and read some mail, the printing stopped so i print the netcom
- mail, #5 is here - lets view it -- opps, the netcom mail tried
- to go to my default fax... NO Crash YET! Do you want to call
- in and get something ... the server is on. I start yet another
- telnet to qns - check the mail .. ftp to oak archives....
-
- QVT *IS* by no stretch of the truth, "a very fine individual
- INTERNET environment to grow from / out of" and feel that this
- product QVT is (maybe not what the writer is here looking for )
-
- But!..
-
- No need for the jam unless of course you are jammin 3.7 which
- i myself have never tried and in which case i will now shut up.
-
- >> Is there a way I can make my computer a file server for ftp
- >> logins?
-
- Depends,,, how many logins you need? -occasional - 100 per day?
- and isn't your question more to the point of "limiting access"?

- One last jam? hope you didn't write your program out of anger?
